Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has been arrested following the order by DPP Noordin Haji.
The troubled county boss was apprehended at Voi on his way to Nairobi.
Details emerged that the leader was being transported in a police chopper by the anti-corruption body detectives.
DPP Haji had directed the arrest of the governor on Friday morning.
He also gave the order for the apprehension of several county employees over alleged graft.
Sonko and his compatriots are set to face charges over the loss of Ksh357m.
Media reports indicate the flashy politician will be taken directly to the EACC offices at Integrity Center.
According to the Public Prosecutor, the lot was implicated in the loss of other county funds worth Ksh 290 million and Ksh 299 million.
Aside from the county officials, the DPP had directed the apprehension of private firms and individuals that benefited in the crime.
On Thursday, the High Court dealt a blow to the politician in his fight with the watchdog.
The court ruled that the plea by the Jubilee party member wasn’t convincing enough thus no interim orders could be issued.
Sonko had taken the matter to the judicial system in a bid to stop the EACC from investigating him.
A month ago, chaos ensued outside the Integrity Center after the leader presented himself to the body.
During the fracas, the former senator complained that the summons by the anti-corruption group was a political witchhunt.
He mentioned that he became a target after protesting against land grabbers who were frustrating residents of Nairobi.
