Blow To Raila as Kieleweke MP Pulls Weight Behind Ruto

Murang’a Woman Representative Sabina Chege on Friday pulled a shocker after she reaffirmed her commitment in supporting Deputy President William Ruto together with President Uhuru Kenyatta in their course to deliver their mandate to Kenyans.

The legislator, speaking at a function at Maragua in Murang’a County and attended by DP Ruto, said nothing had changed in the 2022 succession politics.

She added that President Uhuru had not rescinded his earlier promise to support the DP and said that she still supports the Ruto.

Deputy President William Ruto and Murang’a Woman Representative Sabina Chege share light moments.

“President Uhuru has never told us he has changed his mind. He told us it is the DP and that is where are. You cannot leave your house and go anywhere else…” said the MP.

The MP was speaking at a women empowerment Programme.

It is not clear whether the MP invited the DP but in a series of tweets made by DP Ruto, Ms Chege was tagged along ostensibly showing that the two could be headed for a common political agenda.

In his address, DP Ruto emphasized the government’s commitment to advocating for women’s agenda.

“But we need to do more to make women seize the opportunities available to them without limitations; we must educate them, allow women to access and control productive resources, train and equip them to make transformative decisions in our country.

“We have made remarkable progress in letting our women outside the decision-making bracket into it; their inclusion and intensified engagement in the country’s political and economic structures narrow the gender gap, furthering the attainment of the 2030 development agenda,” tweeted DP Ruto.

The developments come as a shocker to many who had known her as a pro-Handshake MP owing to his allegiance to President Uhuru and ODM leader Raila Odinga’s political truce.

Ms Chege has been a member of Tema Embrace which has been castigating the DP for early campaigns.

The MP has been a critic of DP Ruto’s political agenda and has on record locked horns with the Ruto-allied women’s group, Inua Mama Jenga Taifa.

Together with other leaders including Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru and her Kitui counterpart Charity Ngilu, Ms Chege has been rooting for Uhuru-Raila Handshake which pro-Ruto leaders have termed it as a plot to block the DP from ascending to power.

During the launch of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report, the Ms Chege announced that she will rally fellow women in shutting down women political factions, Team Embrace and Inua Mama.
