The tournament will be dubbed as the Micheal Olunga Tournament and is a way of the striker to give back to the society and grass-root football. Olunga finished second in the goal-scoring charts in the Japanese Second Division, helping his team earn promotion to the top flight after topping in their division.
The move comes just hours after the Football Kenya Federation signed a new sponsorship deal with betting firm Odibets. The three-year deal will see the FKF county league renamed as the OdiMtaani county league.
“As a federation, we welcome this first of its kind partnership. We are happy to partner with Odibets to support grass root talent in the counties,” Nick Mwendwa the FKF president said at the unveiling of the deal.
