Another disaster struck and this time in Majority Leader of Senate Kipchumba Murkomen’s area.
Problems for Elgeyo Marakwet have deepened after another landslide hit the area.
It was reported that a village identified as Kapsiekwa was hit by the calamity.
Further information indicated that no lives were lost during the tragedy that resulted due to the heavy rains in the region.
Additional details proclaimed that the natural phenomenon cut off access to the Nyaru-Kimwarer road in Keiyo South.
The other place affected by the latest problem included Githambo area in Muranga.
This was the second tragedy in the area after another landslide occurred in October this year.
The catastrophe claimed the lives of an entire family whose house was swept away by the violent mud.
The OCPD of the area Vincent Kitili stated that four people passed away after they were caught unawares by the disaster.
West Pokot shook
A week ago, West Pokot was left shaken after a similar situation claimed the lives of over 50 people.
Media reports showed that areas affected were Parua, Nyarkulian and Muino.
Contradicting information, however, emerged in regards to the number of people who died from the incident.
The Kenyan media reported that 52 people had lost their lives while Aljazeera gave the number as 60.
The situation got interesting when the Government Spokesperson Cyrus Oguna highlighted that only 43 people had died.
He added that the victims were mostly young people.
Oguna at the time pointed out that the missing residents were yet to be discovered.
Ruto and Matiang’i visit West Pokot
The tragedy attracted the attention of powerful politicians such as Deputy President William Ruto and Interior CS Fred Matiang’ i.
The two visited the area in a bid to assist the people after Governor John Lonyangapou called for the government’s intervention.
Murkomen who lead a team of Jubilee leaders, also made his way to the area to condole with the displaced families.
The vocal Senator urged the residents to seek higher grounds in order to be safe.
The Majority leader uttered that the West Pokot calamity was a terrible disaster he had ever witnessed.
“We visited among others the home Kaapeel Yaranyang and his wife Josephine. They lost seven children. The eighth child was found alive 300 meters from their home.
“It’s so painful.19 children died in Tamkal village plus two adults. It was very hard for us to comfort them. Let’s keep them in prayers,” comment Murkomen.
Makueni became the latest County to be affected by the tragedy.
The Kenya Meteorological Department warned that the heavy rains were expected to continue across the country.
