Police Officer Killed by Vehicle Ferrying Chang’aa on Busia-Kisumu Highway

A police corporal died on the spot when a vehicle ferrying illicit liquor knocked him down along the Busia-Kisumu road.

Confirming the accident, Ugunja Sub-county Police Commander, Ibrahim Muchuma, said the accident occurred on Sunday night shortly after 8 pm at Sidindi Trading Centre.

He said that the officer, attached to Kirindi Patrol Base that is under the Sigimere Police Station, was riding a motorcycle, GK B877Q when the accident occurred.

The Police Boss said that the vehicle, Toyota Probox KCW 105J, was ferrying the “Simba Waragi” sachet packed liquor when it hit the deceased as it tried to overtake another vehicle.

“They were heading in the same direction and he was in front when the Probox tried to overtake but hit him,” said the Police Boss.

Muchuma added traffic policemen from Ugunja Police Station arrived and helped retrieve the illicit liquor, as the vehicle was towed to the Police Station.

The body of the deceased, whose identity could not be revealed as his next of kin was yet to be informed, was late taken to Inuka private mortuary awaiting post mortem.

Police have launched a manhunt for the Probox driver, who fled from the scene after the incident and asked members of the public to help the law enforcers to arrest him.
