We Need Players Who Are Focused, Dortmund Boss Slams England Winger

Borussia Dortmund coach, Lucien Favre has slammed winger Jadon Sancho after he dropped the England international for last night’s UEFA Champions League clash against Barcelona at the Nou Camp.

The Dortmund number 7 was missing when the Swiss tactician paraded his starting team in the 3-1 defeat to Barcelona in Spain, a result that put their qualification in jeopardy after Inter Milan picked an important win against Slavia Praha.

Sancho was introduced immediately after the interval for Nico Schulz and went on to score the consolation goal for the Germans in the 77th minute. It’s not the first time Favre has dropped the for Manchester City man from his squad over accusations of lacking focus.

Asked after the match why he omitted the youngster form his stating XI, Favre was quick to give an explanation. Without giving details, he claimed that he only fields players who are focused and ready to play.

“We need players on the pitch who are focused and ready,” he said.

Sancho’s teammate Matt Hummels didn’t want to dwell on his omission after the match but chose to praise him for his contribution after he came on.

“I don’t want to talk about it (Being dropped). He played really well in the second half, was really involved and scored a great goal,” Hummels said.

Sancho has been linked with a return to England with Liverpool and Manchester United thought to be interested.
