Lionel Messi scored once and set up two others as Barcelona booked a slot in the knockout round of the Champions League with a 3-1 win over Borussia Dortmund.
Messi played a quick one time pass on the edge of the box for Luis Suarez to open the scoring after 22 minutes. The Uruguay striker returned the favor when a bad pass from Matt Hummels was intercepted and Suarez fed Lionel Messi who coolly slotted home for Barcelona’s second.
It was his 613 goal in his 700th Match for the Catalans. He should have scored another one minutes late but mistimed his dribble and the ball rolled out of play for a goal kick.
French forward Ousmane Dembele was subbed off with an injury and replaced by his fellow countryman Antoine Griezmann.
The World Cup winner got on the scoresheet following a neat dribble and pass from Messi for him to fire the ball into the bottom corner for Barcelona’s third goal.
Messi was clearly in the mood and almost doubled his tally but was unlucky to see his swerving freekick hit the bar. Dortmund awoke from their slumber and pulled one back through England winger Jaydon Sancho.
Barcelona held on for the win which sees them top the group while Inter Milan who were3-1 winners over Slavia Prague comes in second with 7 points.
Dortmund is third but level on points with the Italians. Barcelona will play Inter Milan at the San Siro in their last group match while Dortmund faceoff with Slavia Prague with a place in the knockout stages up for grabs!
