Only Kieleweke Leaders were Invited to State House- Murkomen.

In a candid interview with Citizen TV’s Waihiga Mwaura, Senate Majority leader Kipchumba Murkomen has sensationally claimed President Uhuru Kenyatta’s staff only selected leaders allied to ‘Kieleweke’ faction to the BBI launch.

Murkomen, who was present at the State House function, revealed that he was only invited in his capacity as Senate majority leader but other politicians allied to Deputy President Dr William Ruto were deliberately barred.

Among the Governors present at the State House function were Mombasa’s Hassan Joho, Kirinyaga’s Ann Waiguru and Machakos’ Alfred Mutua among others.

In his rant, Murkomen blamed an unnamed Principal Secretary for making it hard for leaders initially opposed to BBI to make it to State House.

This came after a sustained campaign by DP Ruto against the Building Bridges Initiative report which he termed as a ploy by ‘conmen’ to create more positions for themselves.

While President Kenyatta remained upbeat the BBI recommendations could be the launch-pad to achieve sustainable peace and inclusivity in the country, DP Ruto and lieutenants remained sceptical.

The report proposes a powerful President who will appoint a Prime Minister to carry out the day-to-day running of Government business both in Parliament and on the ground.

The Prime Minister will be cleared by Parliament and is required to be an elected MP emanating from the majority party.

The report also proposes that the IEBC be disbanded and that a new body be formed with its commissioners proposed by political parties.

In the new arrangement, IEBC chair will get more powers to eliminate battles with its secretariat.

Also in the recommendations is that public officers shall be barred from doing business with the government and that wealth declaration forms be publicly available.

BBI also proposes that the media be cushioned from libel and defamation cases especially when it investigates and exposes graft.

Whistleblowers on corruption cases would also be rewarded with a 5 per cent of all recovered loot.

The report is expected to be made public on Wednesday, November 27 both in hard and soft copies.
