Former Arsenal attacker Paul Merson has given his opinion on who the club should bring in as head coach in the event that the Gunners part ways with Unai Emery.

The Spaniard is currently under pressure due to the team’s persistent poor run in the English Premier League this campaign and fans, as well as some former players, want him gone.

A host of coaches have been linked with the job. Former Arsenal captains Mikel Arteta and Patrick Vieira have been touted as possible replacements. Arteta is Pep Guardiola’s assistant at Manchester City while Vieira is the head coach at French side, Nice.

Others include Italian Massimiliano Allegri. The former AC Milan and Juventus boss is currently without a club after parting ways with the Old Lady last season. Immediate former Tottenham coach Mauricio Pochettino is also an Arsenal target.

Merson, however, feels that the man best suited for the job is current Wolves coach Nuno Espírito Santo. Santo is highly ranked and according to Merson the former Valencia and FC Porto coach is the right man to lead the Gunners.

“I like the manager. I think they’re fortunate to have this manager, Wolves. I don’t mean that disrespectfully. I think he could manage one of the top six teams, no worries at all. I’d take him at Arsenal tomorrow morning,” Merson said.

Merson’s Wolves has proved to be a handful to top teams in the English Premier League since their promotion last season.
