This is an extremely amusing story of Kaywann Sistrunk, a US super lightweight boxer who could not stand the weight of a marauding punch in the ring.
Moments into the third round of his fight with compatriot Sevelle Hasan in Las Vegas, he got dropped by a pregnant blow which evidently took tall over him making him look like a completely crazy geezer. He collected himself up, exited the ring, and left the building in an absolutely peculiar manner.
Hasan clipped him with a big right-hand jab forcing the 23-year old pugilist to roll around in agony before eventually getting to his feet while the referee was giving him a count.
A genuinely hapless Sistrunk gestured with his arms, walked to the other side of the ring, spat out his mouth-guard and proceeded to climb out of the ring rethinking his life plans.
Bizarre. Absolutely bizarre. But naturally, the referee signaled a halt to the contest.
Meanwhile, another incredible story is that of Curtis Harper. The heavyweight journeyman who exited the ring before his fight started. Ouch!
Harper was to square it off with Nigerian contender Efe Ajagba in a heavyweight match-up. He had his gloves and gear on, made his entrance, listened to the referee’s pre-match instructions and touched gloves with his opponent- as is the norm in boxing competitions.
Yet when the bout officially started, the 30-year old departed the ring in seconds and headed straight back to the dressing room.
The commentators, much like everyone in attendance, were in utter disbelief at what they were seeing.
Without a single punch thrown, 24-year old Ajagba was given the easiest of victories!
