Arsenal Captain Backs ‘Unwanted’ Midfielder

Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has backed his underfire predecessor Granit Xhaka saying that ‘everyone makes mistakes’.

The Swiss midfielder was stripped of the captaincy a month after he was handed the leadership role after he swore at Arsenal fans who were booing him as he went off during a league match against Crystal Palace at the Emirates.

Xhaka was subjected to boos as he was taken off by coach Unai Emery and he responded by using the F word against the supporters before storming down the tunnel. He had never featured for the team ever since and he was replaced by Aubameyang as captain.

Arsenal fans have been on his case ever since demanding that he be kicked out of the club but the Gabon international has backed the Switzerland national team captain by stating that everyone makes mistakes. He went on to add that the players and everyone at the club will support the left-footed midfielder.

“I took over from Granit in tough circumstances but I am very proud to be wearing the armband, it is an honor. It comes with a lot of responsibilities but I feel I can do a great job,” he said.

“I would like to also say a word for Granit. I understand that sometimes one can make mistakes. It happens to all of us. Granit is one of us. We are all here for him and I know how strong he is,” he added.

Xhaka has been linked with a January move away from the club.
