AFC Leopards Reveal Why They Can’t Host Matches in Nairobi

Kenya Premier League side AFC Leopards on Friday revealed that they have been restricted from hosting matches at the Moi International Sports Center Kasarani.

Leopards will host their match with Kisumu All-Stars at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos, a fixture that was scheduled to take place at the Kasarani stadium.

In a statement, the club revealed that they cannot host matches at the venue due to damage caused by fans during their last match against Gor Mahia. Leopards fans uprooted seats and threw them in the pitch after what the considered as a clear penalty not given to them in the second half f of the match. They eventually lost 4-1.

The team has been asked to stay away from the facility after a section of fans caused damage during our last KPL match. Read part of the statement.

The club also revealed the total amount they owe the stadia management as payment for the damages, a figure they have not yet paid.

The Kasarani management indicated that several seats were damaged and estimated the total cost of the damage to be Ksh337,000. The management further indicated that we have an outstanding bill of KShs 3, 014,240 from previous disturbances.

Therefore the total cost of a section of our fan’s ill-discipline and acts of hooliganism is KSh 3,351,240. The statement continued.

Leopards is 8th on the table with 16 points. They have lost just twice this season. The match against All-Stars starts at 4 PM on Sunday.
