Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko on Thursday hinted at a possibility of rescuing an 83-year-old Grandfather, Evanson Kihumba, sentenced to 30 years in jail after being found guilty of land grabbing.

The City Governor took to his social media account to express his opinion over the matter and even sought his followers’ opinion.

“Watu wangu(my people) I need your guidance on this case.

Do I send my private team to rescue this old man or you think he committed the alleged offence and deserves this punishment?” posed Sonko to his Facebook followers.

Also, the Governor expressed doubts on the case seemingly on the possibility of it being unreal.

The Governor wrote on his Facebook account: “I dont know why I am suspecting some foul play in this case.”

The remarks come hours after Embu Principal Magistrate reportedly ruled that the accused was guilty of procuring himself a land that belonged to a dead person.

The land in question belonged to the late Nyaga Kombuthi.

Kihumbi procured the land on December 18, 1968, at the Embu district’s land office after claiming that he had purchased it from another person identified as the late Paul Kamara.

The court fined him Ksh1.2 million or face a 30-year jail term.

Kihumba was jailed after he could not raise the fine.
