Which year did you sit for your KCPE exams? How have things changed since that time? I remember the results used to come out after Christmas. It took more than three days for candidates to get their individual marks not like today where your marks are just an SMS away.
Then there was the process of joining form one. Most of us received our secondary school admission letters in late January, joined high school in late February and went back home for the mid-term break in March. Schools used to close in the first week of April. It was fun.
In the KCPE results released on Monday by Education CS George Magoha, there is this pair of twins who scored identical marks. Mark and Maxwell Gachau who sat for their exams at St Christopher School in Nanyuki got 400 marks. Is it coincidence or genetics?
It was also joy for an inmate at King’ong’o Prison in Nyeri County as his release coincided with news that he had performed well in KCPE. Benson Ngotho Kang’ara has a second chance to change the course of his life after scoring 367 marks.
Perhaps the most memorable top KCPE candidate in recent times is Goldalyn Kakuya the golden girl who topped the country in 2017 with 455 marks. She wowed many people with her confidence and command of the Queen’s language. She even addressed a graduation ceremony at Masinde Muliro University.
Unfortunately, KCPE will be scrapped off in the next few years as it is not part of the new Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC). It is Thursday, feel free to share with us some TBT moments on KCPE.
