Joho Comes to the Rescue of Besieged Governor

Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho, on Wednesday, met with Taita Taveta Governor Granton Samboja and members of the county assembly (MCAs) where they agreed to bury the hatchet.

Last month, Samboja survived impeachment by his MCAs after the Senate ruled there was no strong enough reason to recommend the Governor’s removal.

Mombasa Governor, through his official page, disclosed that the two arms of the Taita Taveta County (executive and senate and agreed to work together for the benefit of the county residents.

“H.E Governor Samboja was also accompanied by the Members of the County Assembly of Taita Taveta County led by the Speaker and the entire House leadership. During this meeting the two arms of government also agreed to bury the hatchet and agreed to work together for the benefit of the wonderful people of Taita Taveta County” Joho said.

Joho added that the two counties had agreed to support the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) to bring peace in the country.

“We did also agree to throw our weight behind the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI), as a way of fostering unity and achieving peace and cohesion in our country. This initiative we believe will be one of the surest ways of building a prosperous Kenya”

In their petition to impeach Samboja, Taita Taveta listed seven allegations against the governor including irregular purchases.

However, the Senate committee that was led by Embu Senator Njeru Ndwiga found the allegations against the governor did not meet the threshold of impeachment.
