KCSE Candidate Collapses, Dies Minutes After Doing Last Paper

A candidate who had done her last paper of Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education(KCSE) at Memba Secondary School in Rarieda, Siaya County on Friday collapsed and died.

According to award-winning journalist Heminigilder Mugeni, Education Director Joseph  Wamocho confirmed the incident.

KCSE candidate dies after finishing his last paper.

It has not been established yet what led to the death of the student.

The incident comes barely a week after a student died in Nakuru after he was taken ill after sitting for a chemistry practical exam.

The late Victor Kiptoo, an 18-year-old, reportedly died while being taken to hospital.

Kiptoo was a student of Barina Mixed Day Secondary School and a resident of Majani Mingi village in Rongai, Nakuru county.

According to Kiptoo’s father, the son complained of chest pains and difficulty in breathing when he came back home on that fateful day.

Kiptoo’s death came at a time when speculation mounted on xylene chemical reportedly used during the Chemistry practical.

Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers(KUPPET) complained about the chemical and said it had caused health effects to teachers and students.

However, Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha dismissed the reports saying they are unfounded.
