Gang that Chops Tongues Return to County

Two security guards have been killed in Matungu, Kakamega County by suspected gang members after months of calm following a heavy security operation by General Service Unit officers (GSU) in May.

Area residents woke up on Thursday morning to dead bodies of the two watchmen who were guarding Mirele Market at night.

The residents told KTN that the Wednesday night killings have evoked fresh fears of the re-emergence of a deadly gang that has been engaging in serial killings. The ruthless gang are known to gouge out the eyes of their victims.

Area MCA George Mkodo, who spoke to KTN, said the gang men had stolen cattle elsewhere and when they reached Mirere, the guards confronted them.

“The gallant soldiers confronted the thieves but because the gang members were many, they were overpowered and killed”.

Mkodo ruled out the re-emergence of the gang terming the killing of the guards a normal crime.

The incidence comes just a day after police said the leader of one the gangs known as the 42 brothers terrorising residents was arrested.

Police told KTN that they nabbed the leader after he sneaked back to the country from Uganda where he had been hiding.
