Technical University Of Mombasa Students on Strike

The Technical University of Mombasa(TUM) Students on Wednesday went on strike.

The Students held demonstrations outside Makupa Police station where they protested against incidences of insecurity at the institution.

According to reports, several students have been attacked and injured by armed goons at Mshomoroni in Kisauni, Mombasa.

The incident comes barely two days after the students of Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology(JKUAT) held demonstrations over the state of insecurity at their institution.

On Monday, JKUAT students lamented over increasing state of insecurity in the varsity and said a number of their colleagues had lost their lives after being attacked by unknown assailants.

The aftermath of the strike sparked uproar from Kenyans after video footage of a student being clobbered by police officers went viral on social media.

Inspector General of police Hillary Mutyambai on Tuesday released a statement indicating that 3 officer involved in the inhumane act were interdicted and the other officer was yet to be identified.

He pledged to take stern action to any officers breaching the code of conduct of the police service.

Incidences of police brutality in public universities have been on the rise with men on the uniform on spot over meting excessing force on students.

In 2018, a student leader of Meru University was reportedly shot by a police officer during a scuffle between the students and the security officers.
