Free Drinks for Mombasa Road Users as Coca-cola Truck Overturns

Mombasa Road users were treated to a field day after a Coca-cola lorry, packed with dozens of crates of soda, overturned along the highway, spilling its contents.

In a viral video, opportunistic Kenyans are seen running towards the accident scene and leaving with arms full of different Coca-cola beverage brands.

This is despite the truck having overturned just next to the tarmac of the busy highway, posing the danger of the pedestrians being hit by vehicles in the oncoming traffic.

Men and women alike salvage as much as they can from the scene at which, at the time the video was being recorded, police had not arrived.

While some walk away with just a bottle or two of the soft drinks, a more ambitious lot pilfers the drinks in crates, some coming back for second helpings.

An even wiser lot brings transportation means, in the form of bodabodas, which are seen parked in waiting, a few metres from the road.

The footage, shared by a commuter who was on his way to Mombasa, has drawn hilarious reactions from Kenyans, with the general feeling being that of envy towards their lucky-countrymen at the scene.

This is contrary to the uproar that emerges when fuel tankers get involved in accidents and individuals rush to siphon petroleum products, in spite of the risk of a fire outbreak.

Some social media users, however, held on to their moral appeal, reprimanding those captured in the video for stealing.
