Major NASA Coalition Partner Disowns BBI

Amani National Congress (ANC) Party leader Musalia Mudavadi has disowned the much-publicised Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report set to be unveiled soon.

The report organized by President Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s point-men has brewed mixed reactions, birthing two factions in the country’s political landscape.

Speaking on Citizen TV’s Daybreak show, Mudavadi revealed he never submitted any proposals to the BBI team since he felt the process was short of being inclusive.

The NASA coalition founder’s remarks have come to further slim the chances of the BBI ever surviving the test of scrutiny once it gets unveiled.

That Mudavadi could oppose BBI presents a major challenge to President Kenyatta and Mr Odinga’s efforts to ensure the report smoothly sails through without a referendum vote.

“The report is seen to be an arrangement between the two leading personalities in the country,” Mudavadi stated, adding that any attempt to browbeat citizens into blindly adopting the document would be resisted.

Just after the conclusion of Kibra by-elections, Odinga opined their poll victory was a launchpad to the upcoming BBI report and by extension 2022 political ambitions.

While the BBI report is yet to be officially released to members of the public, reports speculate it could feature a powerful Prime Minister with deputies and a President.

Sunday, Garissa Town MP Aden Duale expressed optimism that the highly anticipated BBI report would usher in a Parliamentary system of governance through a referendum.

In what appears as a departure from his boss Dr William Ruto, Duale advocated for a constitution change that would ensure resources are equitably shared across regions.

he lamented that the Presidential system of Governance had largely favoured Mt Kenya region since members of a community could come together and form a coalition.
