3. Herpes. It’s an infection that is caused by the herpes simplex virus. The virus causes painful sores on your lips, gums, tongue, the roof of your mouth, and inside your cheeks. It also can cause symptoms such as fever and muscle aches.

It only affects adults and once you contract the virus, it stays with you forever. The herpes virus is spread through oral sex and can be treated by drinking plenty of fluids and medication for fever.
