Obado’s Ex-Bodyguard Sentenced to Jail

Milimani Anti-Corruption Court in Nairobi on Wednesday sentenced a former bodyguard to Migori Governor, Okoth Obado, to serve a two-year jail term or pay a fine of Kshs. 500,000.

The suspect; Moses Marandwi, personated and used academic certificates of Mr John Chacha Nyamohanga -a Kenya Defence Officer(KDF).

Appearing before Magistrate, Hon. Douglas Ogoti, Marandwi, who is a police officer was found guilty of personation on November 6, 2019.

The Ethics and Anti Corruption(EACC) offices received a complaint on July 13, 2016, alleging that two public officers, John Chacha Nyamohanga alias Moses Marandwi an Administration Police Constable and John Chacha Nyamohanga, a KDF officer were sharing school certificates originally belonging to one of them.

Investigations carried by EACC established that John Chacha Nyamohanga (alias Moses Marandwi) personated and used a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education certificate belonging to John Chacha Nyamohanga a KDF officer to secure employment as Administration Police in 2006.

The Office of Director of Public Prosecution recommended prosecution of the police officer for the offence of Personation of a person named in a certificate contrary to Section 384 of the Penal Code

EACC is also pursuing recovery of the salary irregularly earned from 2006 to date by the police officer.

This comes at a time when the case in which Obado is charged with the gruesome murder of Rongo University student Sharon Otieno will be heard on December 2 and 3, 2019.

Forty two witnesses have been lined up to testify against the governor who is charged alongside his personal assistant Michael Oyamo and Casper Obiero, a clerk in Migori County.
