Daring Gang Breaks into Police Station to Free Detainees

In a shocking demonstration of how audacious Kenyans have become, a gang of criminals Sunday night defied all logical odds, and broke into a Nairobi police station.

Invading a police station might sound like quite the daring act, but doing it, with the aim of freeing detained suspects, is even more outrageous.

This was the case for the rogue Kayole crew, which stormed into Soweto Police Station, seeking to break their jailed accomplices out of custody, after they were arrested over the weekend in possession of drums of illicit brew.

The mission, however, turned out impossible, after police reacted to the threat by firing live ammunition, injuring several members of the gang who are now recovering in hospital.

The crooks had, Sunday, sent threats to the police, demanding they abandon the crackdown on banned liquor in the area, which begun Friday.

Aware of the looming confrontation, officers at the Station remained alert as night fell, which is when the criminals launched their attack.

Police intelligence indicates that the gang is an organised illegal business syndicate, and whenever members are arrested, they raise funds to bail them out, and get the culprits back to business.

In the weekend raid, police impounded about 3000 litres of liquor which, to the agitation of addicted locals, was destroyed.

“Kutumwagia pombe kama hiyo, wangemwaga vitu zingine kuliko kumwaga busaa…wangetupatia wananchi tumalize (Instead of pouring all that brew, they should have given it to us to drink until it is finished),” one local lamented.

Some of the detained suspects who were the target of the Sunday night raid have been arraigned in court, as their business partners recuperate, from the gun shot wounds, sustained from the botched rescue attempt.
