Babu Owino Picks up Fight With Flying Squad

Just hours after ailing Embakasi East MP, Babu Owino, shared a worrying photo of himself about to undergo advanced medical tests, the vocal legislator appears to be firmly back on his feet, with his sights now set on the infamous Flying Squad.

Owino, whose official name is Paul Ongiri, joined fellow lawmakers in castigating the police unit, for being influenced to engage in petty intimidation acts towards politicians, while its mandate lies in dealing with perpetrators of serious crimes.

Speaking to the press Tuesday, Owino jumped to the defence of former Tetu MP Ndung’u Gethenji, who has so far been arrested twice by the Musa Yego led unit, over an issue as insignificant as a family property tussle.

POLICE SHOULD STOP HARASSING MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC!!The members present here have noted with concern the rising trend of the use of the Flying Squad Department of Criminal Investigation Arm of the National Police Service as Hired Goons to settle personal business scores in matters which are civil in nature. All with the intent to disposes legitimate business interests of innocent indigenous investors. The most recent incidents are in the unwarranted arrest and wrongful prosecution of Former Chairman of the Departmental Committee of Defence and Foreign Relations and Former Member of Parliament of Tetu Constituency Hon. Ndung’u Gethenji who is also the developer of the unparalleled Kihingo Village property development as well as the Chairman of its Management Company. It is no secret that there are wrangles within the development. This wrangles are before the courts of law. It has now emerged that some parties to the dispute are not satisfied with the outcome of courts and have now resorted to hiring the Flying squad to intimidate harass and persecute Hon. Ndung’u Gethenji with the intent to cow him into submission and surrendering his rightful claim to his property and his chairmanship of the board.Hon Ndung’u has been arrested twice by flying squad. In each case there has been no report to any police station of any complaint. We have now learnt that some residents including Dhiren Chandaria, Naresh Mehta, Sheetal Khanna, Kishor Varsani, Ashish Patel, Rupin Samani, Jaswant Rai, Mihir Chalishazar, Amar Kantaria, Adil Khawaja, Manoj Shah, Nandu Shah, Priyesh Shah, Mohan Singh Panesar, Moez Jamal, Arvind Pattni, and William Pike have come together to bring false witness against Hon Ndung’u Gethenji with the aim to intimidate him to give up his defence of his rights to his property and his Chairmanship by use of the Musa Yego and his flying squad. The job description of the Flying squad is for serious crimes. What is their interest in Private developments, property and civil matters? Why is DCI Kinoti mute in this gross ABUSE OF OFFICE and MISUSE OF POWERS by his squad? HOW IS HE ALLOWING HIS MEN TO BE USED AS HIRED GOONS?If a respected businessman and former Chairman of Defence and Foreign Relations Committee can be illegally arrested and harassed by the Police, what is the hope for the normal citizen? IGP Mutyambai has a lot to answer for in this case as Musa Yego’s Flying squad are misused under his watch. This is an echo of the dark days of the Kanu regime of the 1980’s.We Demand the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Coordination of National Government Mr Fred Matiangi make a statement on this issue and to immediately disband the flying squad and interdict Musa Yego, George Kinoti and all officers involved in the harassment of innocent business people including Hon Ndung’u Gethenji. The institutions of this country cannot be corrupted to persecute indigenous business people at the behest of foreigners.

“The job description of the Flying squad is serious crimes. What is their interest in private developments, property and civil matters?” Owino ranted.

Further airing his sentiments on social media, the former student unionist noted that in both dramatic arrests, no formal complaint had been lodged with the police, but the Flying Squad, nevertheless, went beyond its jurisdiction to try and scare Gethenji into surrendering his rightful property.

“We Demand the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Coordination of National Government Mr Fred Matiangi make a statement on this issue, and to immediately disband the flying squad and interdict Musa Yego…And all officers involved in the harassment of innocent business people including Hon Ndung’u Gethenji,” the fiery MP stated.

He further wondered why other top police bosses, including the Inspector General of Police and the head of the DCI, were oblivious of this worrying misuse of the dreaded police Squad by influential business people.

“If a respected businessman and former Chairman of Defence and Foreign Relations Committee can be illegally arrested and harassed by the Police, what is the hope for the normal citizen?” Owino posed.

He went ahead to list popular businessman Dhiren Chandaria, among several others, as the major culprits of using Flying Squad officers as hired goons, to force rightful property owners to give up their parcels of land.

“The institutions of this country cannot be corrupted to persecute indigenous business people at the behest of foreigners,” Owino sensationally concluded.
