ODM Sues IEBC 3 Days to Kibra By-election

The ODM Party has tabled a lawsuit against the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) for failing to release Kibra voter register.

They have accused the electoral body of refusing to release the register for inspection and verification at all polling stations in Kibra.

The party, which has fielded Imran Okoth in the race, has shown mistrust in the commission through its suspicions that the Jubilee party plans to rig the November 7 by-election with the help of the Commission.

Raila Odinga’s brigade in the past stated that there was an elaborate plan to lock out ODM affiliated residents from the voters roll in order to deny Imran Okoth Victory.

“It is this unwillingness by IEBC to conduct fair elections that breeds suspicion and makes us start believing reports doing rounds of secret meetings with some Jubilee senior officials over the by-election,” stated Suna East MP Junet Mohammed.

On October 28, the commission released a revised voters’ register with a total number 118,658 voters expected to participate in the by-election.

The revised registry came after the party demanded full details of voters including the dates and centres of registration.

With only 3 days remaining to the D-day of the by-election, ODM foresees election malpractice while the opponent Jubilee party fears violence erupting after the polls.

Deputy President William Ruto has sent an early warning to the Orange party amid his speculations that his opponents may cause violence after the elections.

“Kibra will be changed by development and not insults or violence. Let them try to cause violence and we shall deal with them,” stated Dr Ruto.

The Thursday 7 mini-poll has sparked much heat as it is a battle of titans between Mc Donald Mariga (DP Ruto-affiliated) and Imran Okoth (Raila’s man) with the two masters closely watching.

Raila is determined to safeguard his ‘house’ while Ruto has vowed to get in and take over Odinga’s ‘bedroom.’
