A day after being admitted in the hospital, Embakasi East Member of Parliament(MP) Paul Ongili, alias Babu Owino, has waded into the standoff pitting the Executive and the Judiciary.
On Monday, Babu took to his social media accounts to defend the Judiciary against alleged intimidation by the Executive saying it is unconstitutional.
“The Chief Justice is a senior and respected member of our society and we will protect both the institution and the individual by hook or by crook! CJ MUST BE RESPECTED,” wrote Babu at his Instagram account.
The MP urged President Uhuru Kenyatta and Chief Justice(CJ) David Maraga to have a discourse that will settle the simmering tension saying the tussle will only disadvantage the common citizens if it continues.
“I wish to appeal to my seniors, H. E the President and H. E the CJ to exercise wisdom and sobriety for the sake of the people of Kenya. When elephants fight, it is the grass that suffers.
“This conflict between these two respected arms of Government can only result in hardship for the ordinary citizen,” wrote Babu.
Babu’s remarks come at a time when he is undergoing medication at an unspecified hospital.
The MP, on Sunday, revealed on his social media accounts that he was sick and in hospital receiving medication.
On Monday, the CJ brought to the fore the undercurrents between the Judiciary and the government.
Maraga, while addressing the budget cuts, lamented over government’s discrimination against the Judiciary.
He cited a number of instances when he was disrespected at state functions and even revealed that he has attended some state events without an invitation.
The CJ also complained of being denied basic privileges accorded to him by the constitution such as access to VIP lounge at the airports, the official vehicle and adherence to protocol at state events.
However, Maraga urged the government to provide sufficient funds to Judiciary to enable its operations to run effectively.
