Governor Follows Waiguru’s Footsteps, Holds Traditional Wedding

Nyandarua county governor Francis Kimemia on Saturday wed his wife Ann Wangui Wajohi in a traditional wedding held in Nyeri.

Kimemia’s choice and theme for the wedding were similar to that of Governor Anne Waiguru who exchanged vows with Lawyer Kamothi Waiganjo on 13 July this year.

Photos in our possession show Kimemia and the bride dressed in beaded traditional Kikuyu wear. The Governor also wore a white hat made from animal skin.

The event was attended by Governors Anne Waiguru (Kirinyanga County) Lee Kinyanjui (Nakuru) and Laikipia Governor Nderitu Muriithi among other dignitaries.

Before joining politics in 2017, Kimemia was the Head of Civil Service, a position he took over from Francis Muthaura in 2012.

He has also served appointed as Secretary to Cabinet in President Uhuru Kenyatta’s first government.

He has been touted as one of the people to replace President Uhuru Kenyatta, whose Presidential term comes to an end in 2022, as Central Kenya leader.

Another key figure in the Jubilee government, Lee Kiunjuri has also shown interest to fill Uhuru’s shoes.

On Friday, a section of politicians from the Mt Kenya region proposed the Agriculture Cabinet Secretary as the next Central Kenya kingpin.

Kiunjuri was endorsed by MPs Munene Wambugu (Kirinyaga Central) Zachary Thuku (Kinangop) and Kabinga Wathayu (Mwea).

The leaders said Kiunjuri should be declared the region’s spokesperson to guide Mt Kenya on the next political course to chart as Uhuru’s term comes to an end.
