Body of Man Suspected to Have Strangled Son Found in Mortuary

A man who had been on the run after he reportedly strangled his three-year-old son in Siaya has been found dead.

The body of 32-year-old Boniface Onyango Olela was on Thursday evening found at the Ambira sub-county hospital mortuary in Ugunja Sub County and positively identified by his father, Wilson Olela.

Confirming the incident, Kakumu Kombewa sub-location assistant chief, Philip Ogola said the family had been searching for the deceased since Sunday when he went missing.

Chief Ogola said that the family was informed about an unidentified body that was found by the banks of the swollen river Wuoroya and taken to the mortuary by the police.

The deceased had been on the run since last Sunday after he allegedly strangled his son following a domestic quarrel a month ago with his wife Josephine Atieno, said the chief.

The administrator said that Atieno had decamped from her matrimonial home following the disagreement and gone back to her parents’ home in Moi’s Bridge along with the three-year-old boy, Remmy Olela.

He said that the suspect later visited his in-laws and took the child with whom he has been living with at Nyadhi village.

“According to his parents, all was well and the father and son had been staying well together without any anomaly,” said the assistant chief adding that at around 3 pm on Sunday the man left for his house to have a siesta together with the deceased child.

Ogola said that the parents became suspicious when the two were not been seen by around 7.30 pm, prompting his father to go knocking on his house.

“The old man went to check on to the suspect’s house only to find an unlocked padlock hanging on the door,” said the chief adding that the old man opened the door and found the body of the child lying on the bed covered with a blanket.
