KRU in Shambles as Auctioneers Raid, Cart Away Property

Kenyans were left in shock as pictures of KRU offices being auctioned surfaced online.

The Kenya Rugby Union under its current chairperson Oduor Gangla is said to be bleeding under heavy debts which led to the auction.

KRU has weathered many storms in the past including player revolts, management wrangles and the union even coming into loggerheads with sponsors.

The election of Oduor Gangla came with a promise of change and we have seen a fair share of change so far now that the senior players have agreed to rejoin the team and a largely successful safari sevens.

All this seems to have been running on debt, and the debtors are not happy with the amount of time KRU is taking to meet their end of their bargain.

The photos of the union’s offices being emptied into awaiting lorries may be brewing yet another scandal in the managing body of the sport.

Opera News understands that the auction was fueled by a debt of 4 million shilling that KRU owes Emi Travel, a tours and travel agent that booked and processed air tickets for the Kenya 15s test match against Spain in 2015.

According to Emi travels, the company first went to court in 2016 and got orders to auction KRU.  After the union got the notice, they paid one million to the company to avoid auction, a move that could have tarnished Kenya rugby’s image leading to the Safari sevens.

Financial constraints seem to be biting every part of the sports fraternity with the kenya premier league on its knees amid pleas to the government to bail them out.
