Dating foreigners especially white people has become a norm in the country. With increased technological advancements, Kenyans are now more than ever before exposed to foreigners.
They travel into the country as expatriates and thrill-seekers. Inevitably, on these adventures, many fall in love with Kenyans.
There are several assumptions and misconceptions associated with dating a ‘mzungu’ in this day and age. While we gained independence from colonialists many years ago, the colonial mentality still persists. For starters, the white colour is still somewhat considered superior by many.
Here are 7 assumptions that Kenyans think when they see an interracial couple:
You’re Broke
Many people assume that the Kenyan dating the Mzungu is broke. This comes from the belief that all white people who travel into the country are rich. Contrary to this belief, there are many interracial couples in the country where the Kenyan is richer.
Access to Visa
Many people assume that the only reason Kenyans date foreigners is to gain access to a Visa and fly abroad. For married interracial couples, people assume that the Kenyan only got married to get dual citizenship and travel abroad.
Pointy Children
There is a widely-held belief that Kenyans who date wazungu’s only do it in a quest to sire mixed-race children. They are usually referred to as ‘pointy’ children in Kenya and many people chase the light skin and ‘good hair’ for their children.
Money
Many Kenyans think white people are rich and hence they are given more respect in places as opposed to Kenyans.
Social climber
When people see interracial couples in the country, many people think that the Kenyan did it to get out of the ghetto and scale-up in the social scale.
Poor sex
Many people believe that white people are poor in bed and that the people dating them couldn’t possibly be enjoying themselves in bed.
If the man in the relationship is Kenyan, people think that the mzungu has to be dickmatized with him.
Betraying your race
Some people who like to be regarded as ‘woke’ and proud citizens think that Kenyans dating foreigners are ‘betraying their race’.
