Emery Urges Arsenal Captain to Apologize to Fans

Arsenal manager Unai Emery has urged captain Granit Xhaka to apologize to club supporters after Sunday’s burst up during the game against Crystal Palace at the Emirates Stadium.

The Switzerland international was jeered as he was substituted and he responded by using the F word against the fans something that has irked the fans, and the club hierarchy. The club is reportedly contemplating replacing him as a skipper.

Emery has revealed that the midfielder is distraught following the incident and disclosed that the club is trying to help him recover. He further stated that he needs to own up and apologize to the fans who now on his case with some demanding that he be sacked.

“When we make individual mistakes, we need to make apologies for the circumstances. I prefer to do that. We suggest to him to do it. But now, what is the response we are seeing? It’s that he is devastated and he is very down. The first thing is to recover him, his feelings, “he said.

Emery further hinted that the 27-year old could miss the Carabao Cup clash against Liverpool as he is not in the right frame of mind.

“We need our family, our friends, our supporters to support us, like us. He is not feeling that with the supporters. But we are speaking with him to first be calm and be close to his family and be close to us.”
