Unai Emery Reveals the Latest On Xhaka and Ozil Ahead Of Liverpool Clash

Arsenal head coach Unai Emery has refused to confirm whether Granit Xhaka will continue as the Arsenal captain. The Swiss midfielder was booed by fans during the teams 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

With the game tied at 2-2, Xhaka was subbed off on the hour mark but instead of running off the pitch, he walked off and threw the Captain’s armband on the floor while telling the fans to f*ck Off!

His actions attracted lots of reactions from fans with some calling for him to be stripped off the captaincy. In his pre-conference ahead of the Carabao Cup match with Liverpool, Unai emery refused to confirm whether the midfielder will still be Arsenals Captain.

“At the moment I’m not speaking & I don’t want to think about that. It is not easy for him & for the team. He is now devastated, sad. Really, he knows he was wrong and he feels inside very deep,” Emery said.

Meanwhile, Emery confirmed that Mesut Ozil will travel to Anfield. The midfielder has featured just twice this season amid a reported fall out with the coach.

“He will travel to Anfield and He knows what I want from him. It is the same last year, the same from the first pre-season, the same one month ago,” Emery said on the World Cup-winning midfielder.

Arsenal is in a bad run of form especially in the league where they have won just six of their last 17 fixtures. The team is in desperate need of a positive result and Unai Emery called on fans to get behind the team.

“We need the fans. We need to be strong, we need to transmit a connection with them. The last matches we connect, sometimes yes and sometimes no,” he said.
