Mt Kenya Governors Issue Stern Warning over BBI Talks

Governors drawn from the Mt Kenya region on Tuesday called for a stop to the heightened political debates on the yet to be released Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report.

The Governors Francis Kimemia (Nyandarua County) Martin Nyaga Wambora (Embu), Kiraitu Murungi (Meru) and Nderitu Muriithi (Laikipia) urged politicians from the Mt Kenya region to tone down their rhetoric on the BBI.

They said, in a press briefing, they are concerned that the ongoing discussions which have continued to “elicit heated and potentially divisive anticipatory debates full of emotions and innuendos which could undermine the good intentions of the national leaders.”

The Governors appealed to President Uhuru Kenyatta and Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga to publish the findings of the BBI in order to stop the unnecessary speculations.

“As the Governors of the Central Regional Economic Bloc (CEREB), we urge our people, and all the Kenyans, to be patient as we wait for the report to be released and its contents publicly known,” Kimemia said.

The Governors said once the report is out, they shall examine it in detail, discuss it objectively and offer support if it satisfies the interests of our region.

They added that they shall support any initiative which increases budgetary allocations to Counties for, “the development and improvement of the livelihoods of our people at the grassroots level.”
