On Tuesday, the company announced that Ngugi will take over from Jared Otieno who has been in acting capacity following the nonceremonial exit of former embattled managing director Ken Tarus in July last year over corruption allegations.

The incoming CEO brings in a wealth of experience having served as the general manager at the Kenya Power’s procurement department. Ngugi had also previously served as an accountant at the national Treasury.

He also has over 30 years’ experience in the Company with expertise in financial and revenue accounting, internal audit and supply chain management.

He holds a Master of Business Administration in Finance and a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting. Ngugi is also a Certified Public Accountant of Kenya and a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya.

The new CEO is expected to uplift the company to its former steadiness, even as the company experiences myriads of challenges owing to huge debts it’s currently operating n.

The company has been marred with graft and corruption claims regarding its profitability, mostly attributed to poor management by its former managers

In July 2017, Mr. Tarus was sent home following recommendations by Director of Public Prosecution Noordin Haji that he be prosecuted in a court of law.

Haji ordered the arrest of the firm’s managers over the procurement of defective transformers and irregularities in prequalifying 525 companies for labour and transport contracts.

Those who were arrested included former Managing Director Dr. Ben Chumo, Beatrice Meso (Company Secretary) and Peter Mwichigi (GM Regional Coordination).

Former general managers, John Ombui (Supply Chain) and Peter Mungai Kinuthia (Business Strategy), were also arrested and arraigned in court to answer the graft charges. Their cases are still ongoing.
