Duale, Kuria ‘Strangle’ Each Other Over Impending BBI Report

Parliament Majority Leader Aden Duale and Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria have taken jabs at each other over the imminent release of the BBI report.

Duale and Kuria, differed heavily over the contents of the yet to be submitted report to President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga.

The two locked horns over the presidential and parliamentary system that has divided leaders on which option best suits the country.

The Majority leader on his part remarked that the parliamentary system was the way to go as a solution to the problems that emerge after elections are held in the country.

He reiterated that those advocating for the presidential system, were selfish and don’t have the interests of the citizens at heart.

“Those telling us one man one vote, fine. We will tell you one kilometre one vote, which is something I said in 2015.”

“Kenya belongs to all of us,” stated Duale.

Duale insisted that inclusivity should start with the Presidential position which should rotate from time to time.

“If inclusivity is real, then it must begin with the top seat in the country. That seat must be inclusive and must rotate,” declared the Majority leader.

The politician further asserted that the referendum should be done the same time as the general elections in 2022.

The tough talking leader despite the push for a referendum, clarified that it was not the right time to drive the agenda to the people.

“We can put it as a question during the general elections and say that this general elections we will have questions on the mood of governance we want,” noted Duale.

His colleague however claimed that the parliamentary system was flawed and would do more harm than good.

“I think Kenyans will make a terrible mistake.”

“If you give MPs the power to elect the chief executive of this country, that is how we will get a bad president,” exclaimed Kuria.

The Gatundu South lawmaker affirmed that Duale’s thinking was misplaced and it was the reason he had been rejected by his people in the first place.

“The complaints raised by Duale is because Garissa people have rejected him.”

“I have seen it more than once. So what he needs to know is that the whole country can’t be Garissa,” stated Kuria.

A week ago, Mt Kenya leaders made the headlines in what looked like a major crack in the unity due to difference in opinions.

40 Senators and MPs came out and issued ultimatums that should be met if they were to back the Uhuru-Raila project.

The group chaired by nominated Senator Isaac Mwaura and his Meru compatriot Mithika Linturi, alleged that they had been neglected by the two leaders when it came to the decision making process.

The lot vowed to hold a meeting once the report is released in a bid to understand the contents and thereafter would announce their final stand on it.
