Boost for ODM as Jubilee MP Dumps Ruto for Raila’s Candidate in Kibra

With just nine days remaining before Kibra people go into the ballot to elect their next MP, ODM candidate Imran Okoth has received a major boost after Kigumo MP Hon Ruth Mwaniki offered her support for his candidature.

On Tuesday, the little known Jubilee MP accompanied ODM party leader Raila Odinga together with Imran Okoth in meeting members of the Kikuyu community in the constituency to drum up support for Imran.

Mwaniki, who was also in the company of her Jubilee counterpart Maina Kamanda, threw weight behind Imran saying her decision was largely informed by the March 2018 handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga.

According to Raila, the members of the Kikuyu community had promised to vote in the ODM candidate in the mini poll which is going to be conducted on November 7, 2019.

“Spent part of the afternoon engaging with a delegation of representatives from the Kikuyu community who reside in Kibra. They expressed their confidence in and support for Benard Okoth Imran in the upcoming by-election on 7th November,” tweeted Raila on Tuesday.

Apart from Mwaniki and Kamanda, other Jubilee leaders who have already rooted for Imran’s candidature include a number of Nairobi MCAs and Nyeri town MP Kimani Ngunjiri who has not yet accompanied the ODM team in the campaigns.

The race, which has already attracted a total of 24 candidates, is expected to narrow down to a fierce competition between Imran Okoth of ODM and Macdonald Mariga of Jubilee party who is largely fronted by Tanga-tanga teal led by Deputy President William Ruto.
