Cop Pushes Tout Out of Moving Bus for Failing to Pay Bribe

A matatu conductor is nursing several bruises after a traffic police officer allegedly pushed him out of a moving vehicle.

Nelson Gathogo narrated how the police officer, identified as one Mugendi, intercepted the matatu at City Stadium and demanded a Ksh1,000 bribe.

Gathogo, who did not have any money on him, asked Mugendi to talk to the driver of the vehicle, but the officer could hear none of it.

Instead, he stood by the vehicle’s door and started roughing Gathogo up to the shock of passengers aboard the vehicle

The situation then escalated when the traffic officer hit the tout using his walkie-talkie and started insulting him.

“Kufika hapa karibu na police station akanirusha tu nje (as we were approaching the police station he just shoved me out of the vehicle),” a shaken Gathogo recounted.

He sustained bloodied bruises on his arms and wrists from the impact of his fall, which also left his uniform tattered.

It is a good Samaritan who rescued Gathogo from being ran over by other vehicles after falling on the road.

The officer then ordered him to go record a statement over the incident inside the station but he disappeared without a trace shortly after.

Police are yet to respond to Gathogo’s accusations against Mugendi.
