City Lawyer Savagely Attacks Safaricom CEO Over “Incompetence”

Top City Lawyer Donald Kipkorir has launched an online verbal war against Safaricom acting Chief Executive Officer(CEO), Michael Joseph, claiming that he is a non-performer.

Taking to his Twitter handle on Friday, the lawyer, in a series of tweets, insinuated that the acting CEO was credited for doing nothing at the helm of East Africa’s largest telecommunication company.

In his assertions, Kipkorir argues that Safaricom was a stable company by the time Joseph took charge of it, hence doesn’t deserves much of the credit.

“Michael Joseph is the most overrated CEO in Kenya… He can’t even turn around a Kiosk…He was CEO when Safaricom was there at the right time with all heavenly stars aligned in its favour …

“Safaricom was a company whose time had arrived & anyone with the most modest abilities could have successfully run it,” said Kipkorir.

The lawyer also challenged the acting CEO to revamp the ailing Kenya Airways that is experiencing massive loses perhaps to prove a different kind of leadership.

“Let anyone including MJ successfully turn around KQ, Miwani, Portland, KBC et al, then you can earn respect!” tweeted the lawyer.

The remarks come a day after the giant telco appointed Peter Ndegwa as its CEO with effect from April 1, 2020.

Despite serving as the Chairperson to the board of Kenya Airways, Joseph was appointed as the acting CEO in July following the death of Bob Collymore.

Since his appointment as KQ’s board chairperson in 2016, Joseph is still struggling to bring the airline back to its former glory.

The company has been experiencing massive losses running into billions of shillings.

In June, however, his term was extended by three years to 2019.

All in all, as the first CEO, he is lauded for establishing a solid foundation which has seen the Safaricom telco beat its rival in the industry.

He left Safaricom in 2010 after serving for 10 years since the company was founded in 2000.
