Telecommunications firm Safaricom PLC on Thursday appointed Diageo Continental Europe MD Peter Ndegwa as Chief Executive Officer, bringing to an end the search for the late Bob Collymore’s replacement.
The appointment has elicited a flurry of hilarious reactions from Kenyans on Twitter (KOT) who are always on the lookout for an opportunity to bring their funny bones out to play.
Despite appreciating the choice of an indigenous Kenyan to head the firm for the first time since its inception 19 years ago, Kenyans are now equally worried about the future of the celebrated firm because Kenyan managers have a record of running profitable companies down.

The fact that Ndegwa belongs to an ethnic community believed to be a tad too money-oriented only served to fuel more speculations of a Safaricom downfall by KOT.
