4 Children Dead After Swimming Attempt Goes Horribly Wrong

Tragedy struck leaving four children dead after attempt to swim across a flooded stream went wrong.

The four drowned when trying to make their way to the otherside of the stream in Eldas, Wajir County.

County director of Education Hussein Osman, who confirmed the incident, stated that the victims were aged between 4 and 12 years of age.

Osman remarked that two of the children were in Class Five, another one in Grade One and the last one was in Grade Three.

Further information revealed that the children were playing in the channel when they were caught unawares by the raging waters alleged to have emerged from the Ethiopian highlands.

The bodies of the deceased were luckily retrieved.

He reiterated that the heavy rains that fell in the area had affected transportation in the region leading to a slow response to such disasters by authorities.

It was reported that the death toll in the area in one week has risen to 6.

On Wednesday, a 20 year-old woman in Turkana lost her life after she was swept away by violent rainwater.

Red cross officials who reported to the scene, highlighted that the body of the lady was recovered and taken to Lodwar County Referral Hospital mortuary.

Last week, 4 other people were killed by flash floods after their vehicle was swept away in Mwingi.

The vehicle which was a brand new double cabin, was submerged by the storm waters following a heavy downpour.

Photos taken of the car showed it overturned after the bridge being used collapsed.

Police reports noted that the victims were all males and were heading to Kitui West from Mwingi area.

Another disaster befell a family of four that was killed after a landslide swept away their house.

The area police boss Vincent Kitili narrated that the calamity that occured in Elgeyo Marakwet, was due to the heavy rainfall that was experienced in the area.

Kitili expressed that the family was caught by surprise by the nigh incident.
