Ruto’s Ally Under Fire Over Remarks on Jobless Graduates

Soy constituency MP Caleb Kositany has found himself on the receiving end after a section of Kenyan youth slammed him over his remarks on unemployed graduates in the country.

Angry youth, most of whom are graduates, told off the MP terming his Tuesday’s remarks as unfortunate especially from an elected leader who should be at the forefront advocating for more job creations for the graduates.

While appearing on Citizen TV‘s Day Break morning show, Kositany, who is also Ruto’s close ally, opined that Kenyan graduates should focus mostly on self-employment rather than relying on government jobs as one way of developing themselves.

“A key issue on solving unemployment in Kenya is focusing on Kenyans especially graduates that can get into self-employment. We need to focus more on those graduating from technical courses and assist them in creating self employments,” stated Kositany.

Kositany reiterated the need for the country to set the minds of all graduates to begin innovative ways where they can employ themselves instead of “running around with qualification papers”.

His sentiments, however, seriously backfired after angered graduates rubbished him while inquiring about the six million jobs his Jubilee Party had promised to create each year.

“Its easier said than done. We are used to all these theories especially from those in leadership. BUT where are the 6m jobs you promised Kenyans ( 1m per year from 2013)?” posed one twitter user.

“Soy MP this morning said that graduates should start being self-employed. Does he know we employed him in 2017/ its okay 2022 he should also be self-employed and we should not see him running up and down seeking to be employed again,” remarked another user Lord PK Kimutai

Others lamented how some government officials were busy lecturing Kenyan graduates on how to be self-employed, yet they do nothing in parliament to curb the importation of cheap commodities, which can be produced locally by the graduates.

“Replying to We must stop importing each and everything including toothpick, bring down the cost of doing business for SME , attract investors to manufacturer product locally.”

Here are some more reactions from Facebook and Twitter:

“Replying to Kositany to resign and get into self-employment, at least he has capital. He’s paid by tax payers but expect graduates to be self-employed.”

Fab KinyaHow they think verses how we think, anyone willing to challange this idiot in this forum with a brilliant idea? BTW I come to realise we ordinary people have great ideas than this fool’s, kindly let’s help them with ideas on how to create employment please.”
