The Kenya Premier League entered matchday six last weekend with all 18 teams in action. There were a few surprises as well as some obvious results.

Wazito FC reacts to a dismal start

The first casualties of the new Kenya Premier League season are Wazito FC head coach Fred Ambani and the Technical Director Stanley Okumbi. This follows a 4-2 loss to Kakamega Homeboyz on Saturday with reports claiming that the two engaged in a physical fight after the match.

With just one win from their opening six matches, it was inevitable that change was coming at Wazito. Let’s hope that the team can now play to its potential.

Embarrassing Scenes

For the second matchday running, Sony Sugar failed to turn up for a league fixture and was forced to hand a walkover to Tusker FC. The club is reportedly broke and looks like it could be headed for doom in the next few weeks.

Sony was not alone in handing walkovers as bottom-placed Chemelil Sugar did not make the trip to Mombasa to face Bandari United. Embarrassing that such scenes can be witnessed in the highest football league in the land.

The Champions March on

Gor Mahia needed a late, late winner against Kariobangi Sharks to maintain their perfect start to the new season. The defending champions have won all their first five games this season and top the table with fifteen points.

Despite not having their two leaders in Kenneth Muguna and Joash Onyango for the match, Steven Pollack’s side dug deep and claimed all three points. Gor Mahia is still the team to beat!
