President Uhuru Kenyatta on Sunday evening officially opened Mama Ngina Waterfront Park.
The iconic seaside public park reopened its doors to the public earlier on Sunday when it hosted this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations.
The modernized Waterfront boasts of one of the most beautiful scenic drives across the Mombasa region.
The Head of State was accompanied by First Lady Margaret Kenyatta, Deputy President William Ruto, his wife Rachel Ruto, Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho, Tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala among other leaders.
Mama Ngina Waterfront Park was redeveloped at the cost of Shs 460 million.
Mombasa Governor Mr Joho lauded the investment saying it was a gamechanger in tourists attraction in the county.
“The reorganization of the park has not only made it safer especially for children but has also provided a seamless flow of both human and vehicular traffic.
It has indeed become another crown jewel for Mombasa. I welcome you all to our great city of Mombasa,” said Joho.
Hundreds of Mombasa residents also took part in the opening ceremony.
