The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission(IEBC) has dismissed a petition filed by Jubilee Party candidate McDonald Mariga seeking to have ODM candidate punished over an attack that was meted on him and his convoy on Saturday.
The electoral body found that the complaint did not meet certain regulations as required by the law hence leading to the dismissal.
“The Electoral Code of Conduct Enforcement Committee has dismissed a complaint filed by McDonald Mariga against ODM and Bernard Otieno Okoth.
The complaint is dismissed for non-compliance with regulations 8 & 15. The complainant is free to file afresh complaint as per the law,” tweeted the IEBC.
ODM’s Director of elections Philip Etale welcomed the vindication and slamming the Jubilee party candidate for attempting a foul play against their candidate.
“So Mr Betin reported ODM to the IEBC praying that the party candidate for Kibra Mr Bernard Otieno Okoth Imran will be disqualified from the race.
The IEBC has listened to the prayers, looked at the complainant and dismissed him with the contempt the deserves,” wrote Etale on his social media accounts.
The Orange comms officer went ahead and claimed that Mariga had planned an attack against himself so that the ODM candidate can be expelled from the race.
“Can you imagine, someone hiring goons to stone his own cars and burn his effigy with the hope that his/her opponent will be implicated in the crime?
That is pure balderdash and a lack of human intelligence. The grey matter must be smelling cow dung for one to imagine that someone can be punished for crimes they did not commit.
That is pure IDIOCY. Let the people of Kibra decide,” added Etale.
On Saturday, Mariga’s convoy was pelted with stones resulting in scores getting injured and his vehicles windows broken.
He faulted the ODM candidate for the attack saying he will petition the IEBC to disqualify the ODM candidate.
