How Jumwa Betrayed Jubilee in Ganda By-Election

Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa

ODM spokesman Phillip Etale has accused Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa of double-crossing the Jubilee Party in the just concluded troubled Ganda Ward by-election.

According to Etale, Jumwa, who was arrested on Wednesday after stirring violence that left one person dead, advised Jubilee not to field a candidate in the poll and then went ahead to support an independent candidate.

ODM candidate Reuben Katana, whose uncle died in the violence that Jumwa is accused of instigating, won the by-election garnering 4177 votes.

Jumwa is said to have stormed a meeting at Katana’s home on Tuesday night questioning the agenda of the meeting. It was then that confusion and fracas ensued, leaving one Ngumbao Jola dead.

Jumwa’s preferred candidate, Abdul Omar, emerged second with 2331 votes.

“Their noisy horn bill told the sponsor that by fielding a Jubilee candidate, they will see dust. In short, the people of Ganda and Malindi in general don’t like the name Jubilee,” the ODM Spokesman said referring to Jumwa.

“In fact they hate to hear anything that sounds like Jubilee. Their ears will just ache,” Etale scorned on Facebook.

“She supported a candidate who lost the election after a successful petition. The noisy hornbill convinced the man to run as an Independent candidate thinking that the locals are fools,” Etale continued.

According to Etale, the Jubilee Party did not field a candidate.

However, IEBC election results for the Ward indicate that one Joseph Kiponda, of Jubilee Party, garnered 589 votes.

The seat fell vacant after the High Court nullified Omar’s election in the 2017 General Election.
