House that was swept away in a landslide tragedy

4 people have died in a landslide tragedy that struck a home in Elgeyo Marakwet on Friday.

Reports indicated that the victims were a family that was caught unawares by the calamity.

OCPD Vincent Kitili who confirmed the incident, stated that the incident was as a result of the heavy rains that fell in the area.

Kitili remarked that his team and a group of Red Cross officers that responded to the tragedy, retrieved the bodies of Titus Kiptoo, his wife Lorna and their children Jepchirchir and Jelimo who were underneath the debris of the structure that was swept away by the mud.

Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen sent his condolences message over the catastrophe.

“My condolences to the families of Titus Kiptoo and his wife Lorna who together with their children Jepchirchir and Jelimo who unfortunately were killed when their house was swept by a landslide in Tuturung, Marakwet East as a result of the ongoing heavy rains.

“What a tragedy! Pole sana” remarked Murkomen.

On Thursday, four people perished after a vehicle was swept away by flash floods while several others were injured in Mwingi.

The disaster struck after the vehicle was overwhelmed by the violent waters of Mutindi river following a heavy downpour that occurred the previous night.

The new double cabin, was seen overturned in the watercourse after the bridge collapsed as it tried to make its way across the seasonal river.

The police team lead by John Sawe who is the OCPD of Matianyi, managed to retrieve all the bodies after a two hour rescue operation.

The injured were rushed to Mwingi Hospital to receive treatment while the dead were moved to Kitui Hospital mortuary.

On the same day a bridge along the Likoni-Lunga Lunga highway collapsed endangering the lives of motorists.

KENHA issued a travel advisory for motorists to use a different route in a bid to avoid an adversity along the road.
