President Uhuru Kenyatta has said he will soon, together with the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, embark on campaigns to popularise the recommendations of the Building Bridges Initiatives (BBI).

Uhuru made the comments on Wednesday when he addressed a crowd that gathered to witness the launch of phase 2 of the Standard Gauge Railway in Suswa, Kiajado County.

“We will soon tour this place to popularise the BBI,” Uhuru said.

Earlier during the launch of the JKIA-Westlands Highways, Uhuru downplayed fears that BBI ultimate motive is to create positions for him and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga in the next government.

He said he will go home after his term expires in 2022.

“The BBI is not intended to create a position for me after 2022, it’s meant to dodge violence during future elections, don’t fall for deceits)”.

The BBI team will present the findings to Uhuru and Raila Odinga during the Madaraka Day Celebrations on 1st June. The event will be held in Mombasa County.

The BBI team has been on constant attack especially from the political side aligned to Deputy President William Ruto who have openly criticised it for aiming to create more executives powers.

DP Ruto, while addressing a political gathering in Uasin Gishu County late August, said the BBI as a political scheme aimed at profiting a few individuals at the expense of Kenyans.

Among the positions the BBI is speculated to include in its proposals is the formation of the position of an executive prime minister.
