The government on Thursday announced the appointment of new appointments to several parastatal boards through a gazette notice published on 17th, October 2019.

Among those appointed include retired government officials and politicians who failed in the 2017 general elections to various parasternal boards.

Former Kenya Revenue Boss John Njiraini, Former intelligence chief Michael Gichangi and Former Nyeri Senator Mutahi Kagwe were listed among those appointed.

President Uhuru Kenyatta appointed Njiraini to be Chairperson of the Board of Geothermal Development Company for 3 years.

Gichangi was appointed to be a member of Kenya Vision 2030 Delivery Board while Kagwe to be a member of the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority.

The latest appointments come amid a public outcry by youths following Wednesday’s appointment of former Othaya Member of Parliament Mary Wambui as the chairperson of the National Employment Authority (NEA).

Kenyans took to various social media platforms to criticise the appointment of Wambui noting that she is old and unqualified to serve youths who happen to form the largest chunk of unemployment people in the country.

Nairobi-based lawyer Donald Kipkorir said on his Twitter page Wambui’s appointment was a mockery to Kenyans

“She is old, didn’t go to school…To make her Chair of NEA in the digital age, Jubilee must be trying dark humour”

Youthful Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja vowed to block Wambui’s appointment because “she lacks the necessary academic qualifications and experience to head the authority”.

Sakaja quoted section 10(2) of the National Employment Act which stipulates that the Chairperson of the board must have at least 7 years’ experience in Human Resource Management.

He said that Wambui can serve Kenyans in a different capacity but not as the Chairperson of NEA.
