Motorists Warned After Bridge Collapses (Video)

The government issued a warning following the heavy downpour being experienced in various parts of the country.

KENHA on Wednesday through a travel advisory, cautioned motorists using the Likoni-Lunga Lunga highway to be careful while driving after a bridge along the road collapsed.

The road authorities directed the road users to use the Lunga Lunga-Kwale-Kombani Road in a bid to avert a tragedy at the spot.

The body, added that the matter was being addressed as the contractor in charge was already at the site rectifying the situation.

Earlier, flash floods hit Mombasa town following a heavy downpour the previous night.

In videos seen by this reporter, flash floods engulfed the coastal town hence paralysing activities in the area.

Residents of the second largest city in the country, risked their lives while trying to get through the raging waters.

PSV vehicles in the region found it difficult to navigate the violent waters that had risen after the rainstorm.

In a similar event, four people perished after a car was swept away by flash floods while others  sustained injuries in Mwingi.

The area OCPD John Sawe confirmed the incident and revealed that the disaster took place at Mutindi river.

Sawe, explained that the four were all males and they were heading from Mwingi to Kitui town when the calamity struck.

He noted that the vehicle which was a brand new double cabin, overturned after the bridge collapsed while trying to make its way across the seasonal river.

Police officers and a red cross team, that swiftly responded to the morning incident, managed to retrieve all the bodies that were later taken to the Kitui Level Five Hospital Mortuary.

The injured on the other hand, were rushed to Mwingi Level Four Hospital for treatment.
