Ruto Skips Uhuru’s SGR Launch, Heads To Kericho

On Wednesday, President Uhuru Kenyatta spent the better part of his day at Nairobi and Narok counties where he opened Phase 2A of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) from Nairobi to Naivasha for passenger services.

The event that started at Syokimau railway station saw several leaders including Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua, Kajiado Governor Ole Lenku, Nairobi’s Mike Sonko among others accompany Uhuru all the way to Mai Mahiuas he opened various stations along the way.

Unlike the previous opening of Nairobi, Mombasa SGR line, Deputy President William Ruto was notably missing from Uhuru’s functions.

But what led to Ruto’s absence? Well for the better part of Wednesday morning, Ruto was held up at his Karen office in Nairobi, where he hosted the Israeli Ambassador to Kenya, Joseph Oded.

Later, Ruto flew to his Rift Valley backyard of Kericho county where he officially opened the three-day Annual Conference of the Constitutional Commissions and Independent Offices at the Kericho Green Stadium.

Back at During the SGR launch in Ongata Rongai, Nairobi, Kenyatta veiled a thin attack at Ruto and anti-handshake proponents, who he alleged had misinterpreted the Building Bridges Initiative.

“We always face problems as a country and that should not deter us. Kenyans should not allow politicians to dupe them. We must brace ourselves for a tough time and soldier forward,” communicated Uhuru.

“I know and believe that we have the ingredients to make a better country. We must join hands together and not compete against each other,” Kenyatta rallied for unity

The president maintained that no one can lead Kenya alone, warning against the critics of BBI whom he said should know that the project is not all about elections.

“It’s not about creating a post for me. I will retire after my term is over. It’s about the future of Kenyans,” Kenyatta reiterated his stance on the initiative” he added.
